2024.5.31: Dr. Chamila Gunasekara, a 2012 master graduate of Saitama university, was awarded the RMIT Award for Research Engagement and Impact (Early Career Researcher) in recognition of the potential industry impact of his research in construction materials and sustainability in the construction sector by the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) in November 2023.

2023.10.11: Mr. Khawaja Adeel Tariq, a 2014 doctoral graduate of Saitama University, started working as Professor from 1 August 2022 (at The University of Faisalabad) and is now elected as Professor (from 01 September 2023) at The University of Engineering and Technology Lahore (Narowal Campus) Pakistan.
In 2022, he also won Higher Education Research (HEC Pakistan) Grant for his project about "Development of Economical and Eco-friendly Tuff tiles and Bricks using by-products from industries in Pakistan".
2023.09.08: Prof. K.B.S.N Jinadasa, a 2006 doctoral graduate of Saitama University, was awarded Prof. Lakshman Samaranayake Research Excellence Award 2023 by the University Research Council of University Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. This prestigious award is awarded to the best academic staff who are active in research and are in the permanent cadre of the University of Peradeniya who have undertaken research at the highest international level.
2023.06.23: Prof. Sudhira De Silva, a 2008 doctoral graduate of Saitama University, was promoted to the Chair Professor of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in June 2023. Additionally, Prof. Sudhira became a fellow of the Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka.
Dr. Dashan Tharanga Udagedara, a 2016 doctoral graduate of Saitama University, was promoted to Assoc. Prof. in the Department of Applied Earth Sciences, Uva Wellassa University, Sri Lanka in Mar 2022.
Dr. Sudhira De Silva, a 2008 doctoral graduate of Saitama University, was promoted to Professor in Civil and Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Ruhuna, Sri Lanka with effect from Nov 2019 and appointed as a head of the department of Civil and Environmental Engineering on Jan 2022.
Dr. (Mrs) G.H.M.J. Subashi De Silva, a 2005 doctoral graduate of Saitama University, was promoted to Professor at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Ruhuna, Sri Lanka with effect from Nov 2019. In 2021, she was awarded the Vice Chancellor's award for the most outstanding scholar of the University of Ruhuna.
Prof. K.B. Shameen Nishantha Jinadasa, a 2006 doctoral graduate of Saitama University, was nominated as Sri Lankan top ranked scientists in the field of Civil Engineering according to the AD Scientific Index in 2021.
2021.01.07: Dr. Allan Manalo, a 2008 master’s graduate of Saitama University, was promoted to Professor in Civil Engineering (Structural), University of Southern Queensland, Australia at the beginning of 2020.
2020.02.18: Associate Professor Nguyen Hoang Giang, former Director of the International Cooperation Department (ICD) of National University of Civil Engineering (NUCE) has been newly elected as a Vice-Rector of National University of Civil Engineering (NUCE) on January 30, 2020. 2020.02.12: Dr. Md. Aftabur Rahman (master graduate in 2013), who was working as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Civil Engineering, Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology, Bangladesh, has been promoted to the post of Associate Professor at the same university on January 7, 2020.
2019.06.18: On June 14, 2019, Associate Professor Nakhorn Poovarodom (Structural Mechanics and Structural Dynamics Group, Department of Civil Engineering, Thammasat University) was awarded the International Activity Cooperation Award by the Japan Society of Civil Engineers (JSCE) to honour his long and continuous contribution to international activity with Japan. Assoc. Prof. Nakhorn Poovarodom is an alumnus of our International Graduate Program on Civil and Environmental Engineering, Saitama University (doctoral graduate of 1996). 2017.12.06: Dr. Muhammad Abdur Rahman Bhuiyan (doctoral graduate in 2009), who is currently a professor at Department of Civil Engineering, Chittagong University of Engineering & Technology (CUET), was appointed the position of Dean of Faculty of Civil Engineering, CUET, on October 4, 2017.
2017.12.01: A collaboration between the University of Peradeniya (UOP)'s faculty of Engineering and the Nanyang Environment and Water Research Institute (NEWRI, Singapore), the research and development project "Mitigation of Pollution at Kandy Lake and Mid-Canal, Sri Lanka" has been awarded ASEAN Outstanding Engineering Achievement Award, by the ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organisations. Project Leaders are Dr. Shameen Jinadasa (doctoral graduate in 2006) who is working as a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Civil Engineering of University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka and Professor Ng Wun Jern from NEWRI. UOP's Faculty of Engineering is continuing its collaboration with NEWRI. Building on its experience with Kandy Lake, the project team is carrying out feasibility study for Kurunegala Lake remediation, and the Faculty is in process of renewing Memorandum of Understanding with the same.
2017.08.09: Mr. Jeffrey S. Perez (master graduate in 2004), who is currently a Supervising Science Research Specialist / Geologist at the Philippine Institute for Vocanology and Seismology - Department of Science and Technology (PHIVOLCS-DOST), was awarded the "2017 Outstanding Young Scientist (OYS)" in July, 2017. The award was given from the National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines (NAST, PH) of the Department of Science and Technology. These awards are given to young Filipino scientist (must not be 41 years old within January to December in the year of the awarding) who have made significant contributions to science and technology.
2017.06.16: Dr. A.F.M. Saiful Amin (doctoral graduate in 2001), who is currently working as a Professor at Department of Civil Engineering Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), was awarded the 2016 JSCE International Outstanding Collaboration Award in May, 2017. This award was established in 2013 and is granted to foreigners around 50 years old or younger (as of 1st April 2015), who meet the following conditions: (i) he or she has made contributions to the progress and development of civil engineering and/or infrastructure improvement in Japan or other countries, through the exchange and collaboration with Japan, and (ii) he or she is expected to play an active role in the progress and development of civil engineering in Japan or other countries.
2016.08.02: Dr. Augustus Cooper Resurreccion (doctoral graduate of 2007), who is currently working as an Associate Professor at the University of the Philippines in the field of Environment and Ecology, was awarded with "The Philippines Promising Star Awards 2016" on July 26, 2016 by the Intellectual Property and Science (IP & Science) business of Thomson Reuters. The award was based on the citation impact of the research papaers published from the Philippines between 2006 amd 2015. We congratulate Dr. Resurreccion on this achievement.
Dr. Sohail Ahmed Rai (doctoral graduate in 2006) was awarded Australia Day Achievement Award for doing good modelling work in relation to development of draft Basin Plan for the Murray Darling Basin in January, 2012.
Dr. Rabin Tulandhar (doctoral graduate in 2006) who is working as a lecturer in James Cook University has been awarded Australian Award for University Teaching in the category of Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning 2011 by Australian Learning and Teaching Council. This is a national level award considered very prestigious in learning and teaching in Australia.
Dr. Wael Zatar (Saitama University alumunus of 1999), who was under the supervision of Prof. Mutsuyoshi, was promoted to a full professor rank at College of Information Technology and Engineering, Marshall University, West Virginia, USA.
