Awards
  • Ms. Nguyen Thi Cuc, a 2024 master's program graduate, was honored with the Tokita Yasuo Research Encouragement Award 2024 by the Institute of Noise Control Engineering of Japan (INCE-Japan). The award recognizes her outstanding paper titled “An Experimental Investigation on the Effect of Duration of Living in Japan on Vietnamese Subjective Responses to Vibration and Noise.” The award was presented during the INCE-Japan Conference 2024.
  • Mr. Sanjeev Bhatta, a doctoral student, received the excellent presentation award for the paper, "Post-Earthquake Multiclass Damage Detection of Reinforced Concrete Buildings Using Quantum Convolutional Neural Network" in the annual meeting of the Japan Association of Earthquake Engineering, held in Hokkaido on December 20, 2022.
  • Emeritus Prof. H. Mutsuyoshi (Visiting Prof.) received the AY2022 distinguished service award from the Japan Society of Civil Engineers on May 26, 2023. This prestigious award is given to those who have made tremendous contributions to the progress and development of civil engineering, and management of Japan Society of Civil Engineers.
  • Prof. T. Maki received the Yoshida Award in the field of Thesis for AY2022 for the paper titled “Prediction of Longitudinal Cracks and Evaluation of Load Carrying Capacity for PC Girders Using Multi-Scale Analysis” on May 26, 2023. This prestigious award is given to the brilliant thesis related to Concrete and Reinforced Concrete.
  • Assistant Prof. Y. Togashi was awarded the Walter Wittke Prize 2023 in Weinheim, Germany on June 2023, the 8th Rock Mechanics and Tunneling Day. This award is given to prominent achievements in the field of rock mechanics from the Walter Wittke Foundation.
  • Mr. Pham Van Nam, a Doctoral student, was awarded the best presentation award at the 4th International Conference on Transportation Infrastructure and Sustainable Development (TISDIC) 2023 in Da Nang, Vietnam for the paper titled "Unsaturated hydraulic property of recycled concrete aggregates blended with autoclaved aerated concrete grains for unbound road base and subbase materials in Vietnam" on 1st September 2023.
  • Associate Prof. Ji Dang and Mr. Osama Abbas, a master's student, received the Intelligence, Informatics and Infrastructure Award for Excellent Digital Work for the paper titled “Using image captioning for automatic post-disaster damage detection and identification” at the 4th AI Data Science Symposium on December 16, 2023.
  • Prof. K. Kawamoto was awarded the Medal for the Cause of Education in Vietnam by the Ministry of Education and Training and received the title of Honorary Professor by Hanoi University of Civil Engineering; HUCE, on May 6, 2024. These are to honor his contributions to education, training, and science research cooperation between SU and HUCE, based on SATREPS “Establishment of Environmentally Sound Management of Construction and Demolition Waste and Its Wise Utilization for Environmental Pollution Control and for New Recycled Construction Materials”.
  • Assistant Professor Yota Togashi won ISRM Young Rock Engineer Award 2022. An award ceremony will be held at International Society for Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering (ISRM) Congress, Salzburg, Austria in October 2023. He is supposed to make a 10-minutes speech.
  • Prof. Masato Saitoh and SHODEN have been awarded 2022 Governor of Tokyo Award from the Japan Institute of Invention and Innovation for the invention of base isolation systems for long-period earthquakes (JP, 2015-045171, A; Title of Invention: Displacement Suppressing Device and Displacement Suppressing System).
  • Mr. Upul Kumarage Chamara Sandaruwan, a 2021 master’s graduate, was awarded 3rd place of the Cluster Award for Infrastructure by ADB-JAPAN Scholarship program under Thesis of the Year Award 2022.
  • Dr. Usama Zafar et al. received the best paper award at the 7th International Conference on Structural Engineering and Concrete Technology (ICSECT’22) for the paper “Influence of nonlinearities on the vertical kinematic Interaction of piles” on Apr 12, 2022.

  • Ms. Katrina Montes, a doctoral student, et al. received Intelligence, Information and Infrastructure Excellent Data Award for the paper titled “Semi-autopilot UAV flight path control for bridge structural health monitoring under GNSS-denied environment” at the 2nd AI/ Data Science Symposium organized by Japan Society of Civil Engineers, Nov. 2021. 

  • Assist. Prof. Adnan Anwar Malik et al. received the Best Presentation Award at the 1st International Symposium on Construction Resources for Environmentally Sustainable Technologies (CREST2020), for the paper titled “Tip shape effect on screw pile installation and ultimate resistance”.

  • Visiting Prof. H. Mutsuyoshi and Prof. Maki received the 2021’s Principal’s Encouragement Award for Research on Nov 5, 2021. This award is given to those who have done distinguished achievements in education and research activities. 

  • Ms. Fahmida Parvin, a 2021 master graduate, received the Best Paper &Best Presenter Award for her paper titled “Study of hydration and chloride binding properties of slag blended cement” at the 8th International Symposium on Advances in Civil and Environmental Engineering Practices for Sustainable Development (ACEPS-2021) held on Oct 7, 2021, co-hosted by Saitama University and the University of Ruhuna. 

  • Mr. Syed Kamran Hussain Shah et al. received the best presentation award for the paper entitled, “Effect of Moisture Content on Particle Breakage of Recycled Concrete Aggregates during Compaction” at the 1st International Symposium on Construction Resources for Environmentally Sustainable Technologies (CREST2020)” in Mar 2021. 

  • Mr. Sal Saad Al Deen Taher received the Award presented by the President of Saitama University for outstanding academic research and extracurricular activities. He also received Young Researcher Award at the 9th International Conference on Experimental Vibration Analysis for Civil Engineering Structures for the paper, “Autonomous Multiple Damage Detection and Segmentation in Structures Using Mask R-CNN”, in 2021.

  • Dr. Mohammad Najmol Haque, a 2020 doctoral graduate of Saitama University, received the “Integrity Award” from Roads and Highways Department, Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh for his outstanding professionalism and integrity in government service for the fiscal year 2020-2021.

  • Mr. Rama Mohan Pokhrel received the best paper presentation award at 13th JSCE International Summer Symposium 2011, for the paper “Geostatistical approach for zoning spatial variation of liquefaction potential in sedimentary deposits”.

  • Mr. N. A. K. Nandasena was awarded a full fellowship from the organizing committee of PIANC COPEDEC VIII to attend and present the paper “Numerical modelling of boulder transport by tsunami: The model predictions and its sensitivity” in the 8th International Conference on coastal and port engineering in developing countries (2012), IIT Madras, India.

  • Mr. Dang Truong Giang, who is a Geodesy engineer at the National Remote Sensing Department in Vietnam, received the best presentation award at "The 19th Annual meeting of the Ecology and Civil Engineering Society (ECES)" in Koriyama City, Fukushima, Japan for the presentation entitled "Using remote sensing data for modeling mangrove propagule dispersal in Olango island, Cebu, Philippines".
